However, if you choose to stop reading for a period of time, chances are, you wouldn't know what's going on in the world, and that could be detrimental, especially if important information that you should know was released. Stepping into the unknown potentially means that you will have to manage your risks, and you may even have to deal with the consequences of these risks. However, that also means that an opportunity could be lying ahead of you. If you choose to stay in the comfort of your shell, you could be missing on opportunities big or small. The comfort zone isn't really something to be happy with, because that may mean that you literally did not achieve anything.
Here's another point to think about before I wrap up these personal development tips. Famous people like Thomas Edison came up with such witty inventions because they stepped out of their comfort zone and sacrificed days of researching and experimenting. Today, I would like to share with you some personal development tips on why it is important for you to set your own goals. You may have heard people harping on how important that is. Did you ever wonder why?
Goal setting is important, firstly because it gives you a sense of direction. Think of it this way. If you were to go on a hiking or trekking trip, would you go without bringing along a compass and map for your trip? I guess you would not. The map and compass are tools that will lead you to your final destination. However, you need to know where your final destination is as well. Wouldn't it be quite pointless if you had no idea where you would be going at the end of the journey? That would not be time well spent in my opinion.
Let me give you another analogy. Let's say you are about to play a game of basketball, and you have a ball and two teams of players. However, you do not have any scoring basket. Now, doesn't that sound quite pointless? What is a game of basketball if both teams had no purpose? I believe you know where I am going with my personal development tips.
Basically, goals give you a purpose and point you to the correct direction. The scoring basket in the basketball game and the map and compass in your journey are like smaller goals that point you to a bigger target, which is either winning the basketball match or reaching your destination on the other side of the forest for example.
In life, we need to set big goals, and these goals will give us a sense of purpose. However, you also need to know that these goals should be goals that you cannot achieve easily. Otherwise, they wouldn't be big goals now, would they? Hence, it is important to break your goals down into smaller, bite-sized portions. I like to call them milestones. Like the map and compass, milestones help you track your progress. Milestones also make the overall target seem less overwhelming and easier to attain.
I am about to bring these personal development tips to a close. I recommend that you write down your big goals on a piece of paper, and break it down into various milestones. Aim to achieve those milestones in a given period of time. Keep track of your progress and reward yourself whenever you achieve a milestone.
